International online event celebrates the importance of volunteering

São Paulo, December 03, 2020 – InterCement, the second largest cement company in Brazil, is a reference in voluntary work. The company mobilized 37% of more than 6,000 employees in 2019 worldwide. This Thursday, 12/03, the company brings together guests from different countries in the Bem Fazer webinar to discuss the power of volunteering and its influence on developing skills for teamwork.

The event will gather, among the guests the researcher Frances Hansford (England), Nandi Mandela (South Africa), the creator of Baanko André Menezes (Brazil), Deedar Guerra (Mozambique), leadership in the constitution of the Associação para a Defesa e Desenvolvimento da Sociedade (ADDESSO), Carlos March (Argentina), director of Collaborative Intelligence Management at the Avinam Foundation, Iman Bibars (Egypt), vice president and global leader of the Ashoka Diaspora: Innovators for the Public and regional director of the Arab World Ashoka, and Marcia Kalvon Woods (Brazil), president of the ABCR Council. From InterCement, Wilson Nelio Brumer, CEO of InterCement Participações, Carla Duprat, director of InterCement Institute, and Renata de Camargo Nascimento, shareholder of InterCement Participações and Chairman of the Board of InterCement Institute will be present.

A survey conducted by InterCement with more than 1,500 employees in managerial and operational positions will be disclosed during the webinar. The survey identified among the respondents benefits such as greater engagement and confidence and skills development in volunteering activities.

Among the benefits noted, 87% of respondents stated they developed both technical skills – planning, people, resources and time management, project management, and fundraising – and behavioral skills – leadership, communication, networking, the ability to motivate others, problem solving, and teamwork. Still, 90% said their self-confidence had improved and for 75%, there were gains for mental health (less anxiety, depression and/or stress).

The research, entitled “Impact and value of corporate volunteering: learning from the InterCement Volunteer Program”, was developed by researcher Frances Hansford, Phd from Oxford University.

For almost a decade, InterCement has been implementing volunteer actions through the InterCement Institute. These are mobilizing and social impact projects to develop communities in nine Brazilian states and four other countries (South Africa, Argentina, Egypt and Mozambique where it is present). In 2020, Dia do Bem Fazer, an action that lends its name to the webinar, had more than 1300 voluntary participations in 28 communities and impacted about 50,000 people.
